š§ Something Iām Thinking About: Cholesterol Isnāt the Villain Youāve Been Told It Is
One of my Instagram posts this week struck a chordāespecially with a man in his late 40s who messaged me, āThis hit me dead on.ā
Hereās what I said:
You were told you canāt fix your āhighā cholesterol without statins but no one explored why your cholesterol is off in the first place. No context! Whatās with that?
This is fear mongering.
Youāre uncomfortable taking the Rx but scared not to,
because no oneās taken the time to dig deep with you
or explain why your body is raising lipids in the first place.
š Sluggish thyroid
š Sluggish gallbladder
š Metabolic dysfunction
š Chronic stress
š Liver congestion
š Inflammation
š Sluggish adrenals
All of these can raise cholesterolāand none of them get better by just popping a pill. Even if your numbers look better on paper, the root cause is still there.
If this feels familiar youāre not alone⦠how long have you been wondering about this? I can help you!
Did you know that statins lower CoQ10 and can raise Lp(a) by up to 33%? I wrote a whole post about this marker on Instagram, I hope you check it out. Lp(a) is basically the strongest independent predictor of heart disease, not total cholesterol. Itās a silent risk that 20-30% of the population already has and donāt even know it because our Doctorās are not ordering it alongside routine lipids.
š½ One Simple Swap: Ditch the Teflon
Non-stick pans may be convenient, but they can leach toxins into your food and burden your liver.
ā Try switching to a Lodge brand Carbon Steel pan. Itās light, naturally non-stick without the chemicals, and wonāt contribute to iron overload. Itās one of my kitchen staples.
š¶ What Iām Loving This Week
RedBloom Chili Crisp Oil ā Aroma, the medium heat
Iāve been putting it on everything (including this sun gold pasta with pistachio gremolata by Bon Appetite recipe) and the jar is nearly gone. Bonus?
Itās science-backed, HSA/FSA approved, and makes even the simplest meals taste restaurant-worthy.
ā Try it here
š Myth Busted
āHeartburn means I have too much stomach acid.ā
Actually? Itās often the opposite.
Low stomach acid can cause food to linger in the stomach, creating gas and pressure that pushes acid up into the esophagus. Same burning feeling, very different root cause. I can help you sort out your issues with digestion!
š In Case You Missed It
āļø Shared this in stories: Danielle Hamilton Healthās post on sunlight in your eyes while eating to support blood sugar regulation. Iāve started taking my dinner out on the front stepsābonus: the dogs are loving it.
š§” From My Corner of the World
Iām feeling really grateful and content latelyāhappy right where I am.
Earlier this year, a new friend at the coffee shop asked me a simple question:
āDo you like to read?ā
It hit meāI used to love reading. I was that kid with the book subscription, falling asleep with a paperback on my face. Teachers would lend me books early because they knew Iād devour them and report back.
Somewhere along the line, I stopped reading for fun.
But now Iām deep into authors like Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarrosāletting my mind wander and play again.
This weekend, I dusted off my big Canon camera, charged the batteries, and felt inspired to start photographing birds on my evening walks. Itās been years since Iāve touched it.
New rhythms. Familiar joy. A reminder that creativity and healing go hand-in-hand.
