🧠 Something I’m Thinking About: Cholesterol Isn’t the Villain You’ve Been Told It Is

One of my Instagram posts this week struck a chord—especially with a man in his late 40s who messaged me, ā€œThis hit me dead on.ā€

Here’s what I said:

You were told you can’t fix your ā€œhighā€ cholesterol without statins but no one explored why your cholesterol is off in the first place. No context! What’s with that?

This is fear mongering.

You’re uncomfortable taking the Rx but scared not to,
because no one’s taken the time to dig deep with you
or explain why your body is raising lipids in the first place.

šŸ’ Sluggish thyroid
šŸ’ Sluggish gallbladder
šŸ’ Metabolic dysfunction
šŸ’ Chronic stress
šŸ’ Liver congestion
šŸ’ Inflammation
šŸ’ Sluggish adrenals

All of these can raise cholesterol—and none of them get better by just popping a pill. Even if your numbers look better on paper, the root cause is still there.

If this feels familiar you’re not alone… how long have you been wondering about this? I can help you!

Did you know that statins lower CoQ10 and can raise Lp(a) by up to 33%? I wrote a whole post about this marker on Instagram, I hope you check it out. Lp(a) is basically the strongest independent predictor of heart disease, not total cholesterol. It’s a silent risk that 20-30% of the population already has and don’t even know it because our Doctor’s are not ordering it alongside routine lipids.

šŸ½ One Simple Swap: Ditch the Teflon

Non-stick pans may be convenient, but they can leach toxins into your food and burden your liver.
→ Try switching to a Lodge brand Carbon Steel pan. It’s light, naturally non-stick without the chemicals, and won’t contribute to iron overload. It’s one of my kitchen staples.

🌶 What I’m Loving This Week

RedBloom Chili Crisp Oil – Aroma, the medium heat
I’ve been putting it on everything (including this sun gold pasta with pistachio gremolata by Bon Appetite recipe) and the jar is nearly gone. Bonus?
It’s science-backed, HSA/FSA approved, and makes even the simplest meals taste restaurant-worthy.
→ Try it here

šŸŒ€ Myth Busted

ā€œHeartburn means I have too much stomach acid.ā€
Actually? It’s often the opposite.
Low stomach acid can cause food to linger in the stomach, creating gas and pressure that pushes acid up into the esophagus. Same burning feeling, very different root cause. I can help you sort out your issues with digestion!

šŸ” In Case You Missed It

ā˜€ļø Shared this in stories: Danielle Hamilton Health’s post on sunlight in your eyes while eating to support blood sugar regulation. I’ve started taking my dinner out on the front steps—bonus: the dogs are loving it.

🧔 From My Corner of the World

I’m feeling really grateful and content lately—happy right where I am.
Earlier this year, a new friend at the coffee shop asked me a simple question:
ā€œDo you like to read?ā€
It hit me—I used to love reading. I was that kid with the book subscription, falling asleep with a paperback on my face. Teachers would lend me books early because they knew I’d devour them and report back.
Somewhere along the line, I stopped reading for fun.
But now I’m deep into authors like Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—letting my mind wander and play again.
This weekend, I dusted off my big Canon camera, charged the batteries, and felt inspired to start photographing birds on my evening walks. It’s been years since I’ve touched it.

New rhythms. Familiar joy. A reminder that creativity and healing go hand-in-hand.
